Phoenix Industries, a U.S. based manufacturing company announced the delivery and commissioning of one of their asphalt rubber blending units recently purchased by BTB Asphalt of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The unit, a Phoenix Industries Model AR150, is specifically designed to produce ASTM D6114 type asphalt rubber binder at a production rate up to 15 tons per hour. The company also manufactures the larger AR250 with a production rate of 25 TPH and the AR500 for binder production up to 50 tons per hour.

Asphalt rubber is a process of blending crumb rubber produced from recycled waste tires into liquid asphalt cement (bitumen) to produce an extremely resilient high performance, modified binder that is used in the paving process.

Scott Ward, the field service technician for Phoenix Industries that was on-site for two weeks during the plant start-up reported “The plant commissioning went well. Right after a day or two for the initial start-up and calibration, we went directly into a paving project and the equipment performed great. The new operator for the plant picked up the procedure pretty quick and after a few days was able to handle the equipment operations on his own. It’s nice to have an actual paving project to do while training, this insures that the new operator has good understanding of the equipment before I leave the site."

Phoenix Industries designs and manufactures a wide variety of equipment and provides new technologies for the modified asphalt industry.
