Innovations in Asphalt Technologies

Phoenix Industries – Welcomes Delegation from Kuwait

Phoenix Industries, (PI) recently hosted a visiting delegation from the country of Kuwait. The group included three researchers from the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research and the Managing Director of Abu Shalbah Group of Companies, owner/operator of the first waste tire recycling plant in Kuwait.

The group’s primary focus for this trip was to learn more about the asphalt rubber paving process to be able to introduce this technology into the Kuwaiti Government paving specifications. Asphalt rubber, or rubberized asphalt as it is sometimes referred to, is a blend of crumb rubber made from waste tires and asphalt cement (bitumen) for use as a binder material in asphalt paving. This rubberized binder (Asphalt Rubber) creates a more durable and longer lasting roadway while providing a positive economic and environmentally friendly use for end of life tires. During their visit the group was able to see first-hand the process from start to finish.

Mr. Kelly Sockwell, Technical Director for PI stated “We were very pleased to host this group and appreciate them taking the time to learn some of the recent technology advancements and economic strategies involved with asphalt rubber paving. I feel they left with a much better understanding of what is needed to successfully implement this process in their country and believe that PI can be a strategic partner in making it happen”.

Phoenix Industries is a leader for innovations in waste tire recycling processes and new technologies for asphalt rubber paving.
